One of Napa’s historic estates, Stags’ Leap Wine Cellars dates back to 1893 and covers some 240 acres of stunning natural beauty.

The modern winery was founded in 1970 by Warren Winiarski who fell in love with wine while on a year-long study trip to Italy. After teaching himself the basics and working at the newly-established Robert Mondavi Winery, Winiarski decided to found his own winery in the then unknown region of Stags’ Leap.

In 1976 the estate shot to fame when Winiarski’s 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon stunned the French wine world at the so-called Judgement of Paris tasting. His bottle took first place during the blind tasting, beating many of France’s finest wines from Château Haut-Brion, Château Mouton-Rothschild, and Château Montrose. This surprise victory helped put Stags’ Leap on the map and established Napa as one of the world’s premier wine regions.

Stags’ Leap is very popular for its luxurious Napa Valley winery tour experience thanks to the exceptional quality of the wines and the elegant guest facilities. Visitors can opt for the “Estate Tour & Tasting” which includes a detailed tour of the winery and culminates in an intimate tasting inside the stunning Manor House. For a premium Napa winery tour, why not opt for a special tasting on the porch of the historic Victorian house which once hosted illustrious guests like the king and queen of Portugal.
